Heritage and Planning

Police Association planning application Re: 70-75 Jolimont Street.

3 day hearing from Monday 28th to 30th July.

This matter involves a proposal for the former Police Association site to be used as a “place of assembly” for 320 patrons Friday – Sunday 52 weeks of the year from 7am to 2am (outdoors till Midnight).

Bill Gillies  will represent EMG at the hearing.

We have Acoustic and Town Planning experts to support our case. Fundraising has commenced from concerned residents.

The hearing will begin at 10am on the 28th July at VCAT 55 King St Melbourne.

179-183 Hotham St

City of Melbourne has refused the proposed development. The developer is appealing to VCAT against the refusal.

VCAT has scheduled a 5 day hearing from 21st July to 25th July.

Immediate neighbours and the EMG support the refusal and  are participating in the appeal process.

Jason Romsey, a long time EMG member and neighbour to the site, says the proposal is 5 apartments with 5 levels, two underground and 3 above ground,  and built out to all four boundaries of the site. This is incompatible with the EM Heritage Precinct, has Excessive height, scale and visual dominance, overlooks and creates amenity concerns for adjoining properties.

Similarly, the residents to the rear of the development are going to experience significant disruption along Amberley lane, with the applicant wishing to use this lane off George Street to access their site.
